A Platform to Help Manage a Circular Economy

circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. Source: WRAP

So the problem of resource optimisation exists, how can we track assets and materials to ensure movement continually through a circular supply loop for maximum value and minimum impact until reprocessing. We have the internet, we have lots of companies with different skills, we have different sectors dealing with different resource streams, we have a lot of waste and need to increase recycling, we also need to increase the life cycle of products, refurbish, remanufacture and redesign. So, how can a we help get the consumer involved, pass on an accurate work instruction, financial transaction, traceability and profitability of the resources, nationwide…?

SAP, WR1 & RiDx

Managing Resources through the Circular Economy ISB Global SAP & WR1 provides a “Networked Supply Chain” with total visibility and control of cradle to cradle material and financial operations; supporting transactional clarity between operating entities in the new Circular Economy.

Understanding the Circular Supply Loop

ISB Global’s Supply Chain Modelling tool helps you understand supply chain networks; aiding decision making on inventory levels and transport costs and providing insight into the national supply chain. The system factors in forecasted and actual lead times, along with supply and demand volumes by location, to help identify optimal material flows within a growing supply chain network; delivering long-term cost savings to the planning organisation.

Material Flow in the Circular Supply Loop

Comprehensive customer and supplier master data helps administer work orders, materials planning and scheduling. Raw materials can be traced from source and throughout the supply chain. The capture of value-added activities and management of asset lifecycles supports quality management and adherence to legislation for organic, man-made and hazardous materials.

Managing Price Volatility

The monitoring of movements, material value and price is controlled by the broking entity (EG. the local authority waste department); who can administer individual item pricing on a contracted material and weight basis. A margin can be placed on the job order transactions to facilitate funding for the materials movement process and commodity pricing can be fed directly to SAP from external indexes. Material flows are managed between multiple entities and can be monitored for optimum supply, lead-time and capacity.

Trading Between Entities

SAP, WR1 controls the core master data relating to both customer and supplier. This data is made available to partner organisations in the supply chain via the RiDx Portal, providing integrated sales and purchase order transactions, materials flow and documentation systems.

Building the Cohesive Network

Each council operates a service brokerage ‘hub’ for jobs; merging material streams and either managing internally or brokering services for the collection and transport of materials. Services are allocated to partners based on the relevant stage of the reprocessing cycle and in accordance with supply and demand from the nationwide model. Operational and transactional data is shared between business partner entities, whilst sensitive data is kept securely in the back-office for each individual organisation.

Traceable, Auditable Materials

Every movement of materials, whether commercial or industrial, is traceable by a number of methods: work order, work order row, material batch and asset serial numbering. Materials are then monitored as they move through the supply chain; from schedule to collection, depot to bulk transfer to reprocessing. The same methods can be applied to parts for leasing, refurbishment and reuse; managing the parts lifecycle and the extraction of equipment for materials reprocessing when a part has reached end-of-life.

SAP Business Management Software

SAP, the largest business management software company in the world, is trusted by councils and local authorities, who have large user numbers and complex workflows, to provide them with compliant, multi-functional finance applications. ISB Global has developed the pre-integrated Waste & Recycling One (WR1) add on for SAP Business One; complimented by the SmartWorld toolkit. The Resource Information Data Exchange (RiDx) platform, part of the web toolkit, is an online portal used to monitor transactions between trading entities in circular supply loops.

ISB Global

Is a Value Added Reseller, an SAP Partner for SAP Business One and an Application Development Partner with the [SAP] supported software Waste & Recycling One. ISB Global has extensive knowledge in Supply Chains and has worked in multiple industry sectors in logistics. The Resource Information Data Exchange (RiDx) has been developed from the intimate experience and deployment of Oil, Gas and energy distribution [SAP] software components across multiple trading countries and borders.
